An area transient has been taken into custody for an alleged burglary he committed earlier this month.

35-year-old Dustin Martin of Coralville reportedly was inside a secured parking garage located on Ashley Court in North Liberty during the overnight hours of September 4th. Video surveillance footage allegedly showed him rummaging through tools in a victim’s vehicle.  At one point, Martin noticed the camera and left the area. He then came back with a mask to hide his identity, but he was still in the same clothing he was wearing before.

The victim’s camera, impact wrench and battery charger were discovered missing later that day.

Police contacted Martin, who alleged that he could get the impact wrench and camera back. The impact wrench was returned, but the other items were not recovered.

A warrant was issued for Martin’s arrest on Tuesday; he was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon and charged with 2nd degree Burglary and a parole violation. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
