An Iowa City man was arrested this week on a forgery warrant.

Police say 59-year-old Mark Staley of Crosspark Avenue cashed a forged check from the victim’s account at the Iowa City Walmart on July 31st.  The check was written to Staley for $200 and included an additional $30 service fee, resulting in a loss to the victim of $230.

A warrant was issued on September 10th; Staley was in court Wednesday and charged with Forgery and 5th degree Theft. If convicted, he could be sentenced to over five years in prison.

Staley was released on his own recognizance with an arraignment to be held at a later date.
