A Cedar Rapids man was charged this week after allegedly sending threatening texts to an Iowa City woman.

On September 6th, 24-year-old Bradley-Allen Schmidt reportedly sent texts to the victim stating that he was going to kill her, stab her in her sleep, and cut her vehicle’s brake lines.  Schmidt allegedly identified himself to the victim, as the text came from a new number that the victim was unfamiliar with.  He also identified a specific issue regarding a television that had not been returned to him as the reason for the threats.

Schmidt allegedly threatened the victim a second time on September 11th.  The victim hung up on Schmidt four times before he began sending threatening texts, saying he was going to “smash” her and her roommate and dispose of their bodies. He also reportedly threatened to blow the victim’s brains all over the wall.  A final text was sent, saying “You are dead tonight.”

In both instances, an officer attempted to make contact with Schmidt but was unable to do so, prompting warrants for his arrest.

He was in court Monday and was charged with two counts of 1st degree Harassment. Schmidt could be sentenced to up to four years in prison if convicted on both charges. A no-contact order was issued by Judge Brandon Schrock.
