An Iowa City man reportedly had a dangerous breath-alcohol level when pulled over for a potential OWI.

Police observed 23-year-old Alexander Cline of East College Street driving the wrong way on Jefferson Street at around 4:45pm Saturday.  He then reportedly t-boned a vehicle heading north on Governor Street after he entered the intersection from Jefferson.

Upon contact, Cline allegedly had the odor of ingested alcohol, with slurred speech, and bloodshot watery eyes. He also reportedly admitted to drinking earlier in the day.

Cline’s breath-alcohol level was first measured at a dangerous level of .333 percent.  A subsequent Datamaster test had a measurement of .234 percent.

He was charged with 2nd offense OWI, an aggravated misdemeanor. Cline previously was sentenced to 3 days in jail and was ordered to pay a fine or perform community service when arrested for OWI in December 2022.
