A woman from Brighton Iowa was arrested after it was determined she used a stolen credit card to buy gas.

According to police, the incident occurred on June 4th.  47-year-old Jennifer Hauser was at the Walmart on Highway 1 West when she reportedly found a wallet. She took the wallet into the restroom and allegedly took the money inside and the victim’s credit card.  Hauser then reportedly turned the wallet in to a Walmart employee.

Hauser then went to the HyVee Gas location on Stevens Drive and used the card  to fuel up her vehicle.

It was alleged that Hauser took nearly $450 in cash and charged over $20 in gas.

A warrant was issued for her arrest on August 5th; at her initial appearance Wednesday, Hauser was released on her own recognizance and she will be arraigned at a later date.  She’s been charged with 4th degree theft, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to a year if convicted.
