An area transient who was being checked out by police was arrested when she became aggressive and fought with them.
Police say the incident occurred on August 25th just before 7:30 pm.
Officers were called to a bus stop on Boyrum Street after two witnesses reported she was unresponsive and barely breathing. They attempted to wake up the woman, identified as 53-year-old Mary Herron, who was described as highly intoxicated. When she woke up, she allegedly became aggressive and assaultive to officers, firefighters and paramedics who were there to assist.
Herron reportedly was kicking, pinching and punching those on scene, knowing who they were but allegedly indicating that she didn’t care as she continued to be assaultive. She reportedly assaulted an officer by ripping the skin on their bicep, and kicked a paramedic in the chest.
A warrant was issued two days later; Herron was in court Wednesday and ordered to have a pre-trial evaluation and released to the supervision of the Department of Correctional Services. She was charged with two counts of Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations with Intent of Injury, and could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison if convicted.
