Iowa City Fire Department extinguishes Wednesday night house fire

The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a house fire on Wednesday that displaced three residents.

In a release from the Department, crews were dispatched at 7:33 p.m. for a report of smoke coming from the basement at 1306 Whiting Avenue Court. Upon arrival at 7:37 p.m., firefighters encountered smoke and located the fire in the basement of the home. The fire was brought under control at 7:53 p.m.

There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. The residents displaced by the fire are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The fire remains under investigation.

ICFD was assisted by the Joint Emergency Communications Center, Johnson County Ambulance Service, MidAmerican Energy, and Iowa City Police Department.
