16-year-old charged in West High stabbing case

A 16-year-old has been charged after a reported stabbing incident at West High School.

Iowa City Police say just after 8:00 on the night of August 23rd three people entered the Melrose Avenue school after it was closed for the day. The suspect in the case allegedly chased another person through the hallways before catching him and punching him in the head, knocking him to the ground. The teen then reportedly held the victim on the ground while another person stabbed him.

The incident was captured on security video. The ages of the other two participants have not been released.

The 16-year-old, who is not a West High student, is charged with 1st Degree Burglary. If prosecuted as an adult, he faces a maximum of 25 years in prison. The teen is being held without bond, and a no-contact order has been issued between him and the alleged victim.

No information about the alleged stabber has been released.
