A suspect accused of firing a gun while arguing with a woman earlier this month has been arrested again after Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies say they found him in a hot tub with the alleged victim, defying a no-contact order.
The deputies were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on 23-year-old Calvin Beemer at his residence in the Lake Ridge Manufactured housing community just before 12:30 Saturday morning when they report discovering him in a hot tub in his backyard. The only other person present was a woman who has a current order of protection against him. Beemer was allegedly arguing with the woman earlier this month when he fired a gun six times after saying “I should shoot your ass”. The woman was uninjured.
Deputies say next to the hot tub was a marijuana cigarette sitting on a chair with several items of Beemer’s clothing. Beemer allegedly claimed he didn’t know the no-contact order was still in place. He’s now charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and a no-contact order violation.
Beemer is already facing numerous charges from the gun incident, although a check of the Iowa Courts website no longer shows one of the initial charges, Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon. Earlier this week Beemer was charged with assault after he allegedly punched a man outside his residence.
If convicted on all current charges against him, Beemer faces a maximum of over eight years in prison.
Beemer was given a deferred judgement on a 1st Degree Theft charge last year after Iowa City Police say he used a replica gun in an attempt to rob a resident of the Iowa River Manufactured housing community.
