The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission has selected two firms to conduct market studies on the possibility of giving a green light to a Cedar Rapids casino.

KCRG TV reports the Commission has selected The Innovation Group and Marquette Advisors to conduct two different market studies.

The Linn County Gaming Association and Peninsula Pacific Entertainment jointly applied for a casino license early in August after a moratorium on new licenses expired.

Linn County Gaming Association president Anne Parmley said a Cedar Rapids casino would generate up to $80 million in new revenue to the state, including $5 to $7 million going to nonprofit organizations.

The market studies have a December 30th deadline for completion ahead of a Gaming Comission decision at a special meeting on February 6th.
