A Cedar Rapids food pantry is calling on the public to help keep their doors open.
According to a news release, Together We Achieve is at the risk of closing by the end of the week. With the closure of the Olivet Mission, the non-profit is the largest food pantry in the community.
Shifting of funds away from food insecurity has left the organization with a $50,000 shortfall, and officials say they need that amount immediately to stay open.
Together We Achieve started as a result of the 2020 derecho. Since then the organization has distributed over 1.9 million pounds of food, over 50,000 pounds of personal care items, nearly 42,000 pounds of household items, and served well over 45,000 meals to-go.
An anonymous donor has pledged to match every dollar raised, up to $25,000, to reach the goal.
