An Iowa City man could be sentenced to up to six years in prison after police learned he threw a bag of cocaine out of his vehicle before being stopped for speeding.
28-year-old Roman Aguilar Ventura of the Hilltop manufactured housing community on Waterfront Drive was stopped just after 5pm Sunday on Oak Crest Hill Road Southeast in Hills after being clocked going 77 miles an hour in a 55 mile an hour zone. During the interaction, a witness called into dispatch and alleged that Aquilar Ventura threw a bag with a white powdery substance out of his window prior to the stop.
The bag was located nearby and contained a white powdery substance that field tested positive for cocaine. It weighed in at approximately 29 grams.
Aguilar Ventura was charged with a controlled substance violation and failure to affix drug stamp. He was released from the Johnson County Jail on his own recognizance the next day and will be arraigned at a later date.
