Iowa’s corn yield potential could set a new record.
Reuters reports the Pro Farmer Crop Tour projected Iowa’s corn yield at nearly 193 bushels per acre, about ten bushels above last year’s average and above the tour’s three-year average of just under 186 bushels per acre. A spokesman for the Tour said the only thing that could derail a bumper crop would be an early frost.
Minnesota was an exception. Due to excess rainfall this season, the state is expected to harvest its lowest bushel per acre since 2012.
This month, the U.S. Department of Agriculture forecast a record U.S. soybean crop.
In addition to Iowa and Minnesota, the Pro Tour scouted fields in South Dakota, Nebraska, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.
