Three University of Iowa students celebrated the weekend before classes started by getting themselves arrested.

The Saturday incidents began at 2:33 am when a 19-year old Mitchelville Iowa student entered Burge Hall and punched multiple ceiling tiles and a light fixture, causing $500 in damage. He was charged with 4th degree criminal mischief, a serious misdemeanor.

The second involved a 23-year old Chicago student who met with officers near the intersection of Dubuque and Fairchild streets at around 12:30 in the afternoon. He allegedly was so intoxicated he was unable to articulate where he lived and was unable to make contact with friends. He reportedly was wearing multiple wristbands, refused to follow commands, and was found with a fictitious ID. He could face up to 13 months in jail on Public Intoxication and Possession of a fake ID charges.

The third happened at Bo James on East Washington Street at around 10:15 pm.  A 20-year-old Grimes student was sitting in a booth with friends when officers arrived and began checking IDs.  He allegedly handed an officer a fake ID and tried to run out of the bar. One officer grabbed his arm and another assisted in placing the student in handcuffs. He was charged with possession of a fake ID, Interference with Official Acts, and Public Intoxication. The student could be sentenced to up to 14 months in jail if convicted on all charges.
