An Iowa City man was arrested early Saturday after he was allegedly found with a stolen gun.

Officers received a report from a woman who claimed that 20-year-old Basel Elhindi of Walden Road was threatening her in the downtown area. She told dispatchers that he also might be armed.

Once he saw police, Elhindi fled into the Dubuque Street parking ramp and was observed near a vehicle. Officers apprehended him near the ramp, and investigators located a firearm near the vehicle Elhindi had been spotted by.

A check of the serial number on the weapon showed it had been reported stolen to the Cedar Rapids Police Department.

Elhindi was charged with Trafficking in Stolen Weapons and 4th degree Theft. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to six years in prison.
