All three Coralville Lake beaches – West Overlook Day Use Beach, Sugar Bottom Day Use Beach, and Sugar Bottom Campground Beach – have levels of E.coli above allowable levels.

The US Army Corps of Engineers recommend people avoid swimming at these beaches. They also recommend keeping pets away from the beaches to keep them from drinking the contaminated water.

The Corps says that the main body of Coralville Lake did not test positive, so it remains open to boaters. In a social media post, they said the beaches can have higher levels of bacteria because the water is shallow and there are usually no current. The beaches also attract waterfowl, which can leave behind unsafe bacteria.

Temporary warning signs have been posted at the beaches.
