A sentencing date has been set for a suspect in a Columbus Junction shooting case.

Louisa County Sheriff’s deputies and Columbus Junction Police responded to a report of shots fired on the 200 block of Main Street just after 4:00 on the morning of May 26th. An investigation determined two subjects were fighting when one, identified as 25-year-old Elijah Doss of Burlington, brandished a gun. The other subject, 24-year-old Jonathan Martinez of Winfield, got into his car with a woman and a small child and started to drive away. That’s when Doss alleged opened fire, hitting the vehicle and the Washington State Bank building. There were no reported injuries.

Martinez was arrested just after 6:15 a.m. that morning and charged with Child Endangerment, Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. He was fined $500 and the endangerment charge was dropped.

Doss was taken into custody just before 7:00 that morning and charged with Attempted Murder, Reckless Use of a Firearm, Going Armed With Intent, Child Endangerment and two counts each of Intimidation With A Dangerous Weapon and 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief.

Doss has reached a plea deal, and on Friday Judge Clinton Boddicker set a sentencing date for September 27th.
