Iowa DOT news release
DAVENPORT, Iowa – Aug. 15, 2024 – If you drive on eastbound Interstate 80 near West Branch, you need to be aware of construction work for the widening projects between Iowa City and West Branch that may impact your trip.
Beginning on Sunday, Aug. 18, until mid-November 2024, weather permitting, crews will close the eastbound I-80 exit ramp at the West Branch interchange (exit 254), so crews can construct the new eastbound I-80 alignment.
During this ramp closure, you will follow a marked detour route by traveling on eastbound I-80 to Cedar County Road X-40 (exit 259), then travel on westbound I-80 to reach the West Branch interchange (see map).
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
