A Kalona man faces charges after a road rage incident reportedly led to him assaulting a man.
Police say the incident occurred the afternoon of July 31st. 40-year-old Steven Watkinson of C Avenue followed the victim to his workplace parking spot at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. Watkinson then allegedly walked 100 yards across the lot and beat and kicked the victim with his fists and feet, causing multiple injuries to the man’s face and body.
The victim required treatment at the U of I Emergency Department.
A majority of the assault was allegedly captured on video and saved as evidence.
A check of Watkinson’s driving record showed his status as barred through December 2027.
A warrant was issued on August 2nd; Watkinson was charged with Willful Injury causing Bodily Injury and Driving While Barred. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.
Watkinson was released Monday to the Department of Corrective Services pending arraignment. A no-contact order was issued between Watkinson and the alleged victim.
