A Des Moines woman was arrested Saturday afternoon after allegedly being found behind the wheel while intoxicated.

37-year-old Alicia Kirk was stopped on North Dodge Street at around 3:45pm after reportedly leaving a nearby hotel with kids in the vehicle, and staff believing her to be intoxicated. Her GMC Denali also reportedly was not displaying plates.  She was observed with bloodshot watery eyes, impaired speech, unsteady balance, and had the odor of ingested alcohol.  Kirk allegedly admitted to drinking.

After showing impairment on field tests, she failed a preliminary breath test. Her breath-alcohol level was measured at .244 percent on a Datamaster test.

Kirk’s ten-year-old son and five-year-old daughter were in the SUV when she was stopped.

She was charged with OWI first offense and two counts of child endangerment. If convicted on all charges, Kirk could be sentenced to up to five years in prison.
