A former Kum & Go employee is accused of stealing over $7,000 from the business.

That’s according to Coralville Police, who say 20-year-old Darrell McGill of Sylvan Glen Court in Iowa City committed fraud against the Coralville Strip location on two different occasions while he was working. The first was on March 24th, with the other coming five days later. Police say McGill performed multiple fraudulent transactions, as well as entered sales transactions for VISA gift cards without any money going into the register. The business was reportedly deprived of $7,017.80 between the two incidents.

McGill allegedly fled from Iowa City Police when they found him near the intersection of Taylor Drive and Tracy Lane just after 12:15 Saturday morning. Police say he tried to discard marijuana during an ensuing foot chase, which was later recovered.

McGill is charged with 2nd Degree Theft, 3rd Degree Theft, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over eight years in prison.
