An Iowa City man with a lengthy criminal history has served a brief jail sentence after allegedly threatening to kill police officers last month.

Iowa City Police encountered 64-year-old Russell Weston of Cross Park Avenue outside the Iowa Chop House on East Washington Street just after 5:00 on the afternoon of July 26th. Officers say Weston showed signs of intoxication, was drinking an alcoholic beverage in public, and had urinated himself. He was arrested for Public Intoxication.

Just after 6:45 the next night Weston was encountered at the exact same location drinking a beer in public and showing signs of intoxication. Police say this time he threatened to kill the officers multiple times, including going to their homes to fight them and putting his foot up their butts. Weston was arrested for Public Intoxication and two counts of Harassment of a Public Official.

Court records show Weston pleaded guilty to all counts and was given a two-day jail sentence.

Weston has numerous previous convictions, most involving public intoxication.
