A Coralville man being held in the Johnson County Jail on a parole violation has been additionally charged after allegedly assaulting a cellmate.

Just after 7pm Monday, deputies were alerted to yelling in an overnight holding cell.  The victim stated that he was assaulted by 30-year-old Michael Vogel of Holiday Road, who had been booked into the jail earlier in the afternoon.

A review of closed-circuit surveillance video reportedly showed Vogel walking over to the victim, who was sitting on the ground. Vogel allegedly attempted to kick the man in the head, then punched and struck him with his knee multiple times.   The victim complained of pain and stiffness in their finger after the incident.

Vogel was charged with Assault causing Bodily Injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a year in jail if convicted.
