Iowa City Police have issued a citation for an after-hours party involving dozens of people at a local nightspot.
Officers were called for a noise complaint at 220 South Van Buren Street just before 3:30 Sunday morning. The address is the site of a nightclub that has operated as both H Bar and Nile Hookah bar in recent years.
Arriving police say they found about 50 people inside the establishment and 20 outside. There was also reportedly loud music amplified to the point it could be heard in the nearby alley.
31-year-old Adesola Miller of East Bloomington Street was charged with Disorderly House. Police say she was hosting a party at what they call “her place of business”, although it is unclear if she is the owner or an employee. Arrest records indicate Miller has been warned multiple previous times about the noise level at the establishment.
As H Bar, the business was required by the city of Iowa City to close by 2 a.m. as a result of numerous police calls to the location after-hours, including fights and shootings. H Bar’s owners were fined after they were caught operating past 2 a.m. on at least a half-dozen different occasions.
