A Coralville man accused of shooting two people on the Ped Mall last month is now in custody.

23-year-old Iziah Poulsen of 19th Avenue was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 3:30 Friday afternoon. Iowa City Police say just before 1:00 on the morning of July 20th Poulsen was involved in an argument outside the Graduate Hotel. He reportedly left, returned to the scene, and discharged a firearm several times in a crowded area, causing injuries and property damage. One bullet hit an uninvolved subject. Another hit a nearby taco cart and struck an employee’s hand.

One person tried to disarm Poulsen, who reportedly pistol-whipped and shot at the person before fleeing the scene. The incident triggered a HawkAlert from the University of Iowa.

Poulsen has a previous weapons conviction from 2019 in Johnson County, making him ineligible to carry a firearm.

Poulsen is charged with Going Armed With Intent, Dominion or Control of a Firearm By a Felon, Participating in a Riot, Assault While Displaying a Weapon, Assault With Intent to Inflict Serious Injury, Reckless Use of a Firearm Causing Property Damage, and two counts of Reckless Use of a Firearm Causing Injury. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 31 years in prison.
