The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim in a Wednesday afternoon drowning at Lake Macbride.
The office says in a Thursday news release that the man who died was 20-year-old Yonathan Rivera-Brito of Iowa City.
Deputies responded to Lake Macbride Beach just before 1:15 Wednesday afternoon after a 9-1-1 caller reported seeing an individual in the beach area struggling to swim, then disappearing under the water. Emergency services deployed boats to begin a search operation, and the Johnson County Metro Dive Team recovered Rivera-Brito’s body at 2:55 p.m. Rivera-Brito was transported by the Johnson County Medical Examiner to the University of Iowa Health Care Campus Medical Center for an autopsy.
