A transient faces charges that she threatened a fellow Shelter House resident with a knife.

Iowa City Police say just after 6:30 Tuesday night 47-year-old Latoya Coleman confronted another person at the Southgate Avenue facility regarding her missing property. Coleman allegedly grabbed a six-inch knife from her bag and stepped toward the man while making a slashing motion with it. When the man said he was calling the police, Coleman allegedly walked away and threw the knife into a trash can. It was later recovered by police.

Coleman is charged with Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon. If convicted, she faces a maximum of two years in jail.
