Weekend fire injures several Cedar Rapids firefighters

A weekend fire resulted in several minor injuries to Cedar Rapids firefighters.

A release from the city’s fire department states crews responded Saturday night at 9:14 to a single, two-story residential house fire in the 2900 block of Center Point Rd NE. Crews arrived on-scene and found smoke coming from several windows, especially in the upper reaches of the home. Teams began interior and exterior firefighting operations after ensuring there were no occupants inside.

In the course of fighting the fire, several firefighters received minor injuries, including burns, and were taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.  All were responsive, and able to speak with their families immediately after being treated.

The fire was called “under-control” at 9:55p.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
