A University of Iowa football player was arrested for drunk driving in Des Moines over the weekend.
Offensive lineman Cade Borud, a transfer from North Dakota, was the driver of a 2014 Jeep Cherokee police say was seen swerving within its lane and driving over the divided line near the intersection of NE 22nd Street and NE 58th Avenue just after 2:30 Saturday morning. The arresting officer says Borud showed signs of intoxication, didn’t know which street he was on, and his breath alcohol level was measured at .188%. It was later recorded at .177% on a Datamaster test.
Borud is charged with Operating While Intoxicated. Another Hawkeye football player, wide receiver Kaleb Brown, was arrested for the same offense after crashing his 2023 Dodge Durango into a yard near his South Van Buren Street residence last month. Brown was given a one-game suspension.
