Ankeny man charged with operating stolen vehicle allegedly found breaking in to another vehicle

An Ankeny man charged after allegedly found in possession of a stolen vehicle on Thursday morning was arrested again Sunday morning after police allegedly caught him rifling through a vehicle in downtown Iowa City.

47-year-old Shawn Feddern was on the 100 block of East Bloomington Street at around 7:10 am, reportedly checking door handles for unlocked vehicles. He allegedly entered an unlocked and unoccupied vehicle and removed a money change holder when he was caught in the act by a police officer.

Thursday morning, Feddern was reportedly behind the wheel of a black 2019 Kia Optima that had been reported stolen out of North Liberty and was charged with 1st degree Theft. For Sunday’s incident, he faces a charge of 3rd degree vehicle burglary, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two  years if convicted. In total, Feddern faces up to seven years in prison if convicted on both charges.
