A transient is accused of vandalizing an ambulance parked outside the University of Iowa Health Care Campus Medical Center.

UI Police say security footage shows James Snyder, who turned 24 on Sunday, stomping on the hood of an ambulance parked outside the former UI Hospitals and Clinics on Hawkins Drive at 11:30 Saturday night. He can also reportedly be seen punching the vehicle.

An arriving officer observed the damage and told Snyder to identify himself, but Snyder allegedly fled northbound. He was captured after a brief foot chase and charged with 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of over five years in prison.

A specific damage estimate has not been released, but a 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief charge is applied for damages between $1,500 and $10,000.
