North Liberty Police investigating a report of domestic violence were reportedly assaulted by the suspect upon their arrival.

Officers were called to an address on Exchange Street just after 4:30 Saturday morning after a male outside a house asked for the police. The alleged victim claimed his ex-boyfriend, identified as 22-year-old Braxton Oknokwo-McFarland, had assaulted him during an argument about living arrangements. The two had been dating for about ten months, but they broke up a few days ago and were still living together.

The alleged victim had a large bump on his head and was treated by paramedics. When police tried to arrest Oknokwo-McFarland for domestic abuse, he allegedly physically resisted to the point of a taser being wielded, but not used. One officer fell backwards after he was reportedly shoved by Oknokwo-McFarland.

Oknokwo-McFarland was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury, Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations Intending Injury, and Interference With Official Acts. Deputies say while Oknokwo-McFarland was at the Johnson County Jail Saturday afternoon, he called the protected party three times. He reportedly used another inmate’s PIN for one call, and one call lasted about 20 minutes.

If convicted on all charges, Oknokwo-McFarland faces a maximum of over six years in prison.
