Allegedly drinking hand sanitizer before driving has led to the arrest of an Iowa City man.
Coralville Police were called to Casey’s on Commerce Drive just after 11:00 Wednesday night after a witness reported 36-year-old Almamy Ndiaye of Broadway Street had driven to the location while showing signs of intoxication. Arriving officers say Ndiaye admitted to consuming an eight-ounce bottle of hand sanitizer before driving. The hand sanitizer had an alcohol content of 70%.
Ndiaye reportedly showed signs of intoxication and refused blood testing. His license is revoked until July of 2025.
Ndiaye is charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense and Driving While Revoked. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of three years in jail.
