An Ankeny man was arrested Thursday morning after allegedly being found with a stolen car.

An Iowa City police officer was notified by the University of Iowa Police department that a stolen vehicle was in the downtown area.  The vehicle was identified as a black 2019 Kia Optima, and a check of the license plate confirmed its stolen status.

The vehicle was spotted at the intersection of South Gilbert Street and Highway 6 at approximately 6:19am.  47-year-old Shawn Feddern was the only occupant in the vehicle when a traffic stop was initiated.

Feddern reportedly admitted to police that he took the vehicle from North Liberty with the intent to deprive the owner. All of Federn’s belongings including pills and receipts that belong to him were allegedly found in the Kia.

The vehicle is valued around $16,000.

Feddern was charged with 1st degree Theft, a Class C Felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to ten years if convicted.
