Iowa City Police have issued an update on Saturday morning’s shooting downtown.
The University of Iowa Department of Public Safety issued a HawkAlert at 1:00 Saturday morning indicating gunshots had been confirmed near the intersection of Dubuque and Burlington Streets. A 1:36 update said police were investigating at the scene and were looking for suspects. A third and final alert at 2:08 told students to resume normal activity but remain vigilant.
The ICPD now says the incident occurred just before 1:00 on the 100 block of South Dubuque Street, which is on the Ped Mall. Responding officers located evidence of shots fired and two people suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds.
Police have determined the people involved in the shooting are known to each other and there is no risk to the public associated with the incident.
The shooting is being actively investigated by the ICPD. Anyone with information is asked to contact the department at 319-356-5275. In addition, anyone in that area with security cameras is asked to review their recordings and contact the ICPD with any potential footage or information about this incident.
Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers is also offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information about this incident that leads to an arrest.
