An RV was destroyed by a fire that closed down a portion of Hayden Fry Way in Coralville Thursday morning.
According to a news release from the Coralville Fire Department, firefighters from Coralville and North Liberty responded to a motorhome fire at 1st Ave and 9th Street near Kum & Go at approximately 9:00. The fire involved the recreational vehicle and the pickup truck it was towing. Four people were inside the RV when it caught fire, but they escaped safely on their own. Both vehicles are considered a total loss.
The fire has been ruled accidental, and the cause is still under investigation.
To ensure public safety, the fire department temporarily closed 1st Avenue while the flames were brought under control. With the assistance of the Coralville Police Department, the road was reopened a short time later, resulting in minimal traffic disruption.
