A Coralville man was charged with witness tampering after allegedly threatening someone due to testify against him.

According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on or about July 3rd.  38-year-old Brian Albaugh of 21st Avenue Place allegedly contacted a witness, and called him a rat for participating in an investigation against him. Albaugh also reportedly sent a message to the man, threatening to kill him.

Court records indicate Albaugh had two Class B controlled substance violations from April 23rd and April 26th dismissed, but prosecutors are pursuing a case where he’s facing up to 60 years on two Class B controlled substance violations and two counts of Failure to Affix Drug Stamp. Last week, Albaugh pleaded not guilty; a Case Management conference is scheduled for August 23rd with trial set for October 15th.

Albaugh has been additionally charged with 1st degree Harassment and Tampering with a Witness or Juror, both aggravated misdemeanors. He could face up to four years in jail if convicted on both counts.
