UI Health Care ranked tops in Iowa

University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center was once again ranked the top hospital in Iowa and recognized nationally in eight specialties in the 2024–25 “Best Hospitals” rankings published by U.S. News & World Report.

In addition, UI Health Care Medical Center ranked in the top 50 hospitals nationally for three specialties:   6th ranked in Ophthalmology, 14th in Ear, nose, and throat, and 41st in Cancer.

Five specialties were designated as “High-Performing,” which places them in the top 10% of hospitals across the country;  Cardiology, Heart and Vascular surgery, Gastroenterology and GI surgery,
Orthopedics, Pulmonology and lung surgery, and Urology.

This year’s methodology includes Medicare Advantage data, which doubled the patient records analyzed. Additional changes to this year’s rankings included review of internal hospital transfers, outpatient outcomes, observation stays, and adjustments to weight of rehabilitation and the rating of gynecological cancer. Measurement of patient outcomes forms the foundation of the Best Hospital rankings.
