An area unhoused woman was arrested Saturday morning after allegedly attempting to take hundreds of dollars in merchandise from an Iowa City drugstore.

Police say 38-year-old Belinda Sigsbury was seen going inside the bathroom at the CVS store on Muscatine Avenue with items that had not been paid for.  When confronted by staff, she reportedly had a basket filled with empty packaging for various items.  Sigsbury was asked to surrender the items, but she reportedly threw the basket in the general direction of the staff.

Sigsbury then walked out of the store with 2 backpacks filled with items she allegedly hadn’t paid for.  Both backpacks were recovered and searched, and all items were returned to the drugstore.

Value of the items Sigsbury reportedly attempted to take from the store totaled nearly $970.

She was charged with 3rd degree Theft, an aggravated misdemeanor.
