A transient has been arrested after a Saturday night stabbing on the Ped Mall.

Iowa City Police say the victim was following 34-year-old Sean Christopher along the 200 block of East College Street when an altercation ensued. Christopher allegedly produced a knife from his bag and stabbed the other subject in the stomach.

Christopher then walked eastbound through the Iowa City Public Library and continued down the 300 block of East College Street where he was pointed out to arriving officers. A knife consistent with the stab wound was found in his bag.

The incident was captured on security video. Police say the wound was deep enough that it may have required surgery.

Christopher is charged with Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury and Going Armed With Intent. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.

Christopher has a history of threatening others with weapons including a knife, a stick, and a meat cleaver.
