A Coralville woman faces several charges after allegedly committing crimes against patients in her care.
Police say 19-year-old Morgan Davis of 4th Avenue was employed as a caretaker by a third-party company providing services to a residential care facility for older people. A resident under Davis’ care reported unauthorized charges to their credit and debit cards totaling over $940. The resident’s credit card was also reported stolen from their residence.
Security videos at multiple businesses between April 23rd and May 1 allegedly showed Davis using each of the victim’s three cards; a vehicle registered to Davis could also be seen. She reportedly signed the victim’s name on the credit card transactions without their permission.
Between May 25th and June 5th, Davis is accused of using credit and debit cards from three additional residents and racking up unauthorized charges exceeding $1730. Again, security video was reportedly able to capture Davis using the cards at multiple locations, including a local grocery store, where she skip-scanned an additional $150-plus worth of items without any attempt to pay for them.
A warrant for Davis’ arrest was issued July 3rd; she was served Wednesday and faces multiple charges. They include: Forgery, Identity theft under and over $1500, two counts of financial exploitation of an older individual, and unauthorized use of a credit card under and over $1500. If convicted on all charges against her, Davis could be sentenced to up to 26 years in prison.
