Iowa City Police seek help in identifying suspects in assault of unhoused man

The Iowa City Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying suspects who allegedly assaulted an unhoused person sleeping in Downtown Iowa City.

At 1:03 am Tuesday, near the bike racks at the Iowa City Public Library, videos show a suspect assaulting a sleeping an unhoused man. Again at 1:12 am Tuesday, video shows another suspect assaulting the same person. Video of the assaults can be viewed online using the link below.

The suspects returned to the area a third time and were seen sprinting through the alley next to the Iowa City Senior Center at 1:20 am.

These suspects were traveling on foot with three other individuals. Videos of these assaults were also posted on social media platforms.

In addition, anyone in that area with security cameras is asked to review their recordings and contact Police with any potential footage or information about this incident.
