A man missing from Hope House since May has been located and returned to custody.

On February 23rd, 60-year-old Tracy Ayers reached a plea deal from the court on 2nd degree Theft and four counts of 3rd degree vehicle burglary. He was given a five-year suspended sentence, three years of probation, and one year in a residential facility.

According to the Department of Corrections, Ayers signed out of Hope House May 10th at 7:56pm for a one-hour period.  He failed to return, and a warrant was issued for his arrest the next day.

He remained at large until Friday, when he was located near the intersection of First and Muscatine avenues in Iowa City just before 5:30pm.  Ayers allegedly was found with a clear glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine with burnt meth inside.

He faces charges of Escape from Custody and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail.
