Coralville man faces OWI charge after ramming car into light pole on UI campus

A Coralville man faces a drunk driving charge after University of Iowa Police say he rammed his car into a light pole on campus.

Officers were called to a one-vehicle accident on the 200 block of Newton Road just after 5:15 Thursday morning. Witnesses reported a 2005 Toyota Camry left the road and struck a light pole. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Diego Reyes Rafael of the Western Hills Estates manufactured housing community on Highway 6 West, reportedly showed signs of intoxication and admitted to drinking earlier in the morning. His breath alcohol content was measured at .269% at the scene and .234% on a Datamaster.

Reyes Rafael was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
