The Coralville Community Food Pantry is teaming up with University of Iowa women’s basketball stars Sydney Affolter, Taylor McCabe, and newcomer Lucy Olsen for a special fundraising campaign. Starting on Monday and running through Friday, August 2nd, the three Hawkeyes will be encouraging fans to donate $20 or more for a chance to play them in a friendly game of H-O-R-S-E. All donations will be doubled by Hills Bank (up to $12,500). Together, their goal is to raise $20,000 to support neighbors facing hunger.
An in-person meet-and-greet event with Afolter, McCabe and Olsen is set for the Coralville Community Food Pantry (804 13th Ave) on Friday, August 2 from 3-4:30pm, with the game of H-O-R-S-E taking place immediately afterward. Visitors for the meet-and-greet are encouraged to bring a donation of $20+ or 2-3 health items to donate…including menstrual products, diapers, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, etc…in exchange for a selfie or autograph with the players.
Last year was the food pantry’s busiest year in the history of the organization–as they experienced a 78% increase in the number of pantry visits and home deliveries fulfilled. So far in 2024, the Food Pantry is on track for another unprecedented year.
All individuals who donate online by Tuesday, July 30 at 11:59pm will have a chance to have their name drawn to participate in the game of H-O-R-S-E with the athletes.
