The State of Iowa and a woman injured when a University of Iowa Cambus slid on an icy road and hit her vehicle in 2018 have agreed to settle a suit ahead of trial.

The Gazette reports that 48-year-old Yoland Parker sued for a million dollars for injuries to her knee, neck and back, and to recover damages for past and future medical costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering. She originally sued the driver as well as the state, but dropped the driver from the suit later.

On the afternoon of December 28th 2018, the bus hit Parker’s vehicle on Oakdale Road near Terra Lane in Coralville.  She accused the driver of going too fast for conditions and failing to maintain control.

The state countered that Parker was, quote, “comparatively at fault.”

Trial was scheduled for September 13th, but the Gazette reports the State Appeal Board approved a settlement of $68,000.
