A National Weather Service team says Tuesday’s storms showed no signs of a tornado path and instead showed evidence of straight-line winds.
The Gazette reports a survey team went Wednesday to the area around U.S. 1 and Phebe Lane, west of Highway 218, and found tree damage but no path of a tornado. A survey team also could not confirm reports of a tornado near the West Branch area.
Tuesday’s severe storms were worst south of Interstate 80, with the National Weather Service taking reports from trained spotters of 81 mph wind gusts in Riverside and Frytown.
The National Weather Service has cancelled the flood watch for the Cedar River at Blairs Ferry Road in Palo, but the river will creep into minor flood stage at Cedar Rapids by noon Monday.
In the Quad Cities, the Mississippi River is in major flood stage at 18.65 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet. It’s expected to peak at 20 feet Sunday morning, below the record 22.7 feet at that location.
