A Cedar Rapids woman was arrested after an alleged reckless driving incident that ended with her spitting on a person who confronted her.

The incident occurred at the Casey’s on Broadway Street on the afternoon of June 13th. 22-year-old Shalia Lewis of 12th Street NE was reportedly identified as the driver of a Chevy Tahoe with dealer plates, driving recklessly. Police say she moved in and out of traffic, passed vehicles on the shoulder and followed another vehicle to the convenience store.

Lewis was confronted by the driver of the other vehicle about her reckless driving, and she allegedly responded by spitting on the person while sitting in her Tahoe.

A check of Lewis’ driving record showed her driving status as barred until March 2026.

A warrant was issued the following day, and Lewis was arrested Sunday. She faces driving while barred and simple assault charges, and could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail if convicted.

She was released on her own recognizance Monday pending further court dates.
