An Iowa City man has been sentenced to 60 months in federal prison for making false statements during purchases of firearms and unlawfully possessing firearms while a drug user.

That’s according to a press release last week by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.

According to public court documents and evidence presented at sentencing, 23-year-old Kiante Green  purchased numerous firearms which he provided to individuals he knew to be prohibited from possessing firearms. Those firearms were then used in the commission of violence. At the time of Green’s firearm purchases and during his possession of firearms, he was an unlawful user of controlled substances, and engaged in the distribution of marijuana.

After completing his term of imprisonment, Green will be required to serve 3 years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

Green’s case was investigated by the Iowa City Police Department as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
