A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested for allegedly burglarizing an Iowa City building last  year.

According to the criminal complaint, 27-year-old Brodey Long of Fruitwood Lane NW and his accomplices broke into the building on the 100 block of Commerce Drive on June 29th just before 9pm.  The suspects were allegedly captured on surveillance video scouting the location, staging a vehicle outside, and stealing tools and equipment.  They reportedly took between $3000 and $5000 worth of equipment during three trips from the building, which houses three different businesses.

Investigators were able to tie the vehicle used in the alleged crime to Long. He had also been stopped with the vehicle multiple times over the last year by the Iowa City PD, Johnson County Sheriff Department, and Cedar Rapids PD for various infractions.  Body-worn camera video from those incidents and online images of Long reportedly matches video from the scene of the burglary.

A warrant for Long’s arrest was issued on December 12th. It was served on Tuesday, and he faces one count each of 3rd degree Burglary and 2nd degree Theft. If convicted on the charges, Long could be sentenced to a maximum ten years in prison.
